Turkey's public broadcaster TRT more than doubled its advertising revenue to 114 million liras (US$62.5 million) in 2011, according to Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc.
Television advertising now accounts for around 58% of the country's 4.2 billion liras advertising market, with 71% of the revenue shared by Turkey's top five channels – TRT, Kanal D, Star TV, Show TV and ATV - reports Haberturk newspaper.
Dogan Yayin Holding's Kanal D accounted for the largest share of advertising revenue (137 million liras) in the first quarter of 2012, according to broadcasting watchdog RTUK.
Star TV, which was sold by Dogan to Ferit Sahenk's Dogus Holding in 2011, reaped 78 million liras revenue in the first three months of this year, compared with 52 million in the same period last year. Show TV, owned by Cukurova Holding, also increased its advertising share with 90 million liras in the opening three months of 2012, up from 81 million liras a year earlier.
Calik Holdings' channel ATV, which is reportedly holding sale talks with bidders including Time Warner and Abraaj Captial, registered a 37% fall in advertising revenue from 62 million liras in the first three months of 2011, said Haberturk.
